Administration
Managing Director
Andrew J. Horning |
Drew oversees all operational, financial and marketing matters for the Institute and has responsibility for strategic planning efforts and the successful execution of high-priority initiatives. He also regularly advises graduate students with regard to academics and career direction. Mr. Horning came to the Erb Institute in 2002, after serving as Market Development Manager with DTE Energy, where he focused on the commercialization of clean and renewable energy technologies, such as fuel cells, photovoltaics and wind power. He also worked for several years as a wealth manager in the financial services industry, spending most of that time with the Merrill Lynch Private Client Group. Drew received his MBA and MS degrees from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and School of Natural Resources and Environment. He also holds a B.S. in Business Economics from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.
Drew presently serves on the Board of Advisors for Greenopolis.

Marketing & Events Coordinator
H. Dominique Abed |
Dominique is responsible for a number of key areas within the institute including marketing initiatives and major events management. Dominique previously served as Executive Secretary at University of Michigan's Women's Studies Program. Prior to her work with the U of M, Dominique spent 12 years working as a canine obedience and tracking instructor. She also has more than nine years of advertising and graphic design experience, and completed the Washtenaw Community College Web Technology Certification Program in July 2004. Dominique holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Michigan.

Program Coordinator
Cynthia A. Cleveland |
Cyndy joined the staff of the Erb Institute in 1997. She coordinates many of the administrative and program activities of the Institute. Cyndy earned a BA from Albion College. Much of her career has been in higher education including program administration in the School of Public Health & Community Medicine, the College of Education at the University of Washington and 7 years in University and Government Relations at the University of Michigan. Cyndy enjoys the outdoors, travel, the arts, swing dancing and of course the Erb Institute MBA/MS students! |

Financial Administrator
Karen Houghtaling |
Karen joined the staff of the Erb Institute in 2008. She is responsible for financial reporting and transaction reconciliation activities within the Institute. She also provides assistance in developing and monitoring annual budgets, and creating policies and procedures to help streamline administrative processes. Karen came to the Erb Institute from Arizona State University where she served as a Program Coordinator in Global Outreach and Extended Education. She has more than 15 years of administrative experience and more than 12 years of management experience. Karen earned her AA from Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona. She is a native of Michigan who likes to garden, travel, and read. |

Work Study Student
Julie Kwon |
Julie Kwon graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor and is a Freshman at the University of Michigan. She hopes to transfer to the Ross School of Business next year. Julie is interested in environmental and social issues in North Korea where she wants to help out in the future. She is also interested in musicals, dancing and cooking. She is fluent in Korean and currently studying Chinese. Julie views working at the Erb Institute as an opportunity to meet like-minded, passionate people committed to making the world a better place. |

Erb Fellow
Stephanie Bertels, PhD |
Stephanie approaches her research from a cross-disciplinary perspective that
bridges strategic management and the issues surrounding sustainable
development to explore how organizations can develop and implement innovative
strategies to pursue a sustainable future. Her research interests are in the
areas of institutional theory, interorganizational collaboration, and
resilience and reliability across organizational boundaries. Stephanie
recently completed her PhD in Strategy and Global Management and Sustainable
Development at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
Prior to returning to do a PhD, Stephanie worked as an environmental engineer
in British Columbia, Canada. |

Erb Fellow
Katherine DeCelles, PhD |
Katherine DeCelles completed her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland in Organizational Behavior at the R.H. Smith School of Business in 2007. Her research interests are in exploring the social and psychological explanations for individual and organizational ethical behavior, employee values and meaning, and organizational change. She has a coauthored paper forthcoming in the Academy of Management Review entitled “After the fall: Reintegrating the corrupt organization.” Other papers currently under review include “Change behind bars: Managing cynicism in the face of continuous organizational change” (which explores employee ethical reactions to organizational change in a state prison system), and “Cognition and affect in whistle-blowing: Understanding whistle-blowing norms and behavior” (which explores moral outrage, peer support and whistle-blowing behavior). Current projects also include evaluating how employees can sustain values towards both environmental sustainability and financial performance, as well as examining the impact of green work environments on employee and organizational outcomes. |

Chunbo Ma, PhD |
Chunbo's research explores the relationship between economic growth, energy use and air pollution in China, and the adoption of renewable energy technologies in Chinese provinces. Each Alcoa Fellow is assigned at least two faculty mentors. Chunbo completed his PhD in Economics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in June 2007. His research interests include ecological economics, decomposition analysis of the role of biomass in mitigating China’s air pollution problems, and time series analysis of the relationship between energy use and economic growth. |

Judith Walls, PhD

Judith's research explores the relationship between corporate governance and environmental strategy, mechanisms of industrial symbiosis strategy, corporate strategic responses to renewable energy policies, and innovation in energy efficient technology. Judith completed her PhD in Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in June 2007. Her research interests include corporate strategy, corporate governance, organization and management, and environmental sustainability. |

Haitao Yin, PhD |
Haitao Yin received his PhD degree in Applied Economics and Managerial Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His research interests center around one question – how regulatory policies (governments), voluntary programs (non-profit or industrial organizations), markets (businesses) and social norms (the general public) can be utilized to create systems of incentives to promote harmony between nature and society. His current research projects include: the roles of governments and insurance markets in financing the cleanup of Underground Storage Tank (UST) releases, the impacts of ISO 14001 Certification on firms’ environmental management and performance, and the voluntary cleanup programs for Brownfields. |
