Erb Returns: From Sustainability to Resilience:
Leading, Learning and Living in an Ever-Changing World

Back to Front Page

What do flood plains and Apple Computer, Inc. have in common? They both adapt organically to unexpected changes in their respective environments, whether extreme weather events and rising sea levels or failed product launches and leadership turnover.  Recent scholarship in ecology, policy, business, and psychology (to name but a few) is converging on the proposition that resilience in natural systems, organizations and relationships is a precondition for sustainability.  In today’s rapidly changing world it is vital that we are able to lead with resilience: we must be able to adapt and bounce back from changes to the systems we manage and live in.

Join your fellow Erb alumni and Erb External Advisory Board members October 8th-11th at U-M for ‘Erb Returns’, a community Reunion from which you will also gain a deeper understanding and exploration about how to apply resilience in your career and personal life!  The event will include professional and personal development workshops, peer-to-peer learning and social events.  This is a great opportunity to return to the Erb community, connect with your classmates, other CEMP/Erb graduates, External Advisory Board members past and present, as well as gain new skills and perspectives to bring to work and apply to your personal life.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

Thursday, October 8, 2009 – Dinner with the alumni, EAB members and current students.

Friday, October 9, 2009 – Erb Returns: Professional Development Program

Friday Evening, October 9, 2009 – Erb Dinner and Party

Saturday, October 10, 2009 – Erb Returns: Personal Development Program

Saturday Evening, October 10, 2009 – Erb Dinner and Party

Sunday, October 11, 2009 – Alumni Brunch

Erb Alumni Representatives, Nina Henning and Devon Douglas (class of ’09), and Cyndy Cleveland are developing a host committee for this event and are looking for representatives from each graduating class to join the committee. Please contact Cyndy or Devon (cyndyc@umich.edu & devonjd@umich.edu) to volunteer and help make Erb Returns a success!
